![]() By 2025, Jaguar plans to be an all-electric car company, ahead of the U.K. These improvements are important for Jaguar’s goals. ![]() The race version of the vehicle helped the company figure out how to squeeze an extra 20 kilometers of range through torque management lessons on the track, which got passed along to all I-PACE drivers. Jaguar TCS (the car company partners with Tata Consultancy Service for Formula E) joined the league in 2016, and its time on the track has already paid off for the I-PACE, Jaguar’s first electric vehicle, released in 2018. That’s where race car engineering could come in. Formula E hopes to do the same for EVs, improving the battery and speeding up widespread adoption of zero emission vehicles. This “race to road” pipeline is behind anti-lock brakes, push-button ignition, and even rear view mirrors while improving every part of a car from the suspension, transmission, and engine. For more than 100 years, motorsports have been a test bed for automotive technology that often eventually makes its way into the cars the public buys.
